JAKIM through the Halal Hub Division in collaboration with the Selangor Islamic Religious Department successfully organized the 7th Halal Certification Bodies Convention 2016 which took place on 28 and 29 March 2016 and at the Sama-Sama Hotel, Sepang, Selangor. This prestigious convention was held in conjunction with the World Halal Week 2016, which successfully brought worldwide participation of the recognized Halal Certification Body members.

Halal Certification Body accredited institution is recognized and appointed by JAKIM to verify the halal status of the raw materials, food products, critical ingredients, meat and animal-based products that will be imported to Malaysia. The convention, themed “Towards A New Dimension Of Halal” was attended by a total of 300 participants from 54 halal certification bodies abroad and four local authorities of the Union of Islamic Countries (OIC), Council / Department of Islamic Affairs as well as Government agencies and industry associations who are directly involved in the implementation of halal certification in Malaysia and also internationally.

Keynote opening ceremony was officiated by YB Senator Dato ‘Dr. Ashraf Wajdi bin Dato ‘Dusuki, Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister Office. The convention then continued with a series of presentations from various fields of expertise by speakers from government agencies and universities. Among the topics presented were:

The second day of the convention began with a forum on the topic, ‘A Way Forward: International Halal Accreditation Body’ accompanied by four panelists from Morocco, Malaysia, Australia and the United Kingdom operated by Pn. Hajjah Hakimah bt Mohd Yusoff from JAKIM. The panelists shared their opinion on halal accreditation and certification based on existing standards and procedures to be followed by the industry. After the forum, the participants were taken to a number of factories and laboratories to get an understanding about how the halal standard has been applied by their plants based on their daily operations.

On the second day, a dinner was held together with a closing ceremony officiated by the guest of honor YB Mej-Jen Datuk Seri Jamil Khir, Minister in the Prime Minister held at the Concorde Hotel, Shah Alam, Selangor. The dinner was also graced with the launch of the Halal Assurance Management System of Chemical Company of Malaysia Berhad (CCM). The appointment of the official laboratories of UNIPEQ Panel Halal Malaysia, Melaka Biotech and Halal Research Institute was also announced. Through this official announcement of the appointment, it is hoped that the laboratory is able to help JAKIM strengthen Malaysia’s position as a leading world halal.

In addition, Malaysia is also taking on a new lawful dimension in the future through cooperation with the International Certification Body as a leader in global halal. Various initiatives and new strategies will be implemented to ensure its realization.
